Detroit, MI — October 2025 — The Women’s Sustainable Development Initiative (WSDI) has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to provide critical support for developers across Michigan.
At WSDI’s annual fundraiser, MSHDA COO Tim Klont presented an oversized ceremonial check to symbolize the award. These funds will be awarded by WSDI to cover eligible predevelopment and development costs, helping ensure projects move from planning to reality. By partnering with MSHDA, WSDI ensures that funded projects meet rigorous standards for affordability, sustainability, and community impact.
WSDI’s mission is to provide training, mentorship, and access to capital to emerging developers. Since its launch, WSDI has built a thriving community of more than 150 emerging and experienced developers and commercial real estate professionals. Alumni of its flagship WE Develop program are currently advancing more than $55 million in neighborhood projects.
“This investment from MSHDA allows us to close the pre-development capital gap that so often stalls projects,” said Lisa Campbell, WSDI’s Executive Director. “It strengthens our ability to empower emerging developers to bring impactful developments to communities across Michigan.”

WSDI team awarded the $1,000,000 ovsersized check from MSHDA COO, Tim Klont.
